10 Ways to Drive Traffic to your Podcast Interview on Social Media

You’ve recorded a gold standard podcast interview. Check! Now what?

The host has posted your interview episode on their website and included backlinks to your site. Time to walk away and let the people listen in…right?

Sure you can do that, but with a little more proactivity you can ensure that you get every drop of juice from the marketing and SEO opportunities.

With only a few easy steps, you can drive more traffic to your podcast interview via your social media.

Below are ten simple and pretty straightforward tips:

Promote It Social Media Style

You certainly have a lot of options when it comes to the world of social media. We recommend using a  wide variety of channels such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn YouTube, Pinterest and depending on your target audience, even Tick Tok, to share creative content with your current followers and draw new members to your page. Be sure to post each of your podcast interviews. Here’s how...

1. Create a Graphic

It doesn't take long to whip up professional graphics for your interviews that can stylishly show off your name, the hosts name, podcast name and the title of the episode you appear in. You can even create one template that you use for all your interviews, simply swapping out the content as needed. This is something that you can do yourself, but it can also be helpful to have a graphic designer on speed dial for this!

Expert Tip: You can use a software like Canva to assist you in incorporating some stylized text and graphics. Many of the formats are free and it is very user friendly, you’ll be thanking us!

2. A Classic Post

One of the most classic ways to share information on your Instagram page is a post. A post uses an image or graphic combined with a caption and shares it with all of your followers. Since you just created an eye-catching graphic, don’t be shy - go ahead and share it with your followers! Posting regularly enriches your account, especially on Instagram as a potential follower often checks out your page before they decide to click that “Follow” button. If your posts are few and far between, viewers may not feel that you are worth following. If they see a stylish and informative page that will add value to their social media experience, they are likely to connect with you.

Expert Tip: Share a mix of photos and text-only posts to change it up. Sharing carousels on Instagram is a fantastic way for you to share multi-page posts. You can make the cover the title of your podcast, and share the key points, quotes, and helpful tips in the following pages. On the last page share where they can listen to the full interview. Check out our page here: https://www.instagram.com/podcastguestbooker

3. Share it on Your Story

A story is a video or graphic post that shows up on your social media page for 24 hours. This allows you to share content more often without cluttering your account page. A story is a great format to share a  “Coming Soon” message with your followers to alert them that you will soon be sharing your interview with them! If you link your accounts, you can post your story to Instagram and share it simultaneously to your Facebook story as well.

Expert Tip: Post frequently, but don’t blow up your follower’s feeds with your stories. If you post multiple times a day, every day, they may be tempted to mute your stories or unfollow your account.  We recommend posting info about your podcast just a few times per week for maximum impact!

4. Reel them In

A somewhat newer Instagram feature - Reels. Instagram Reels can now be up to one minute long, double the previous 30-second time limit, where you can share a snippet of content with your followers. As we will elaborate on in a bit, this is a great way to share a sample of your podcast interview. A Reel enables you to add a caption - followers can leave public comments, and Reels do not expire - they stay in a dedicated Reels tab in your profile. We recommend posting a “call to action” video to give some background information about the podcast show, the host, the topic discussed in your interview, and where people can tune in.

Expert Tip: Everyone loves a “behind the scenes” sneak peek! You can record a “selfie” video of you  prepping for the interview, and perhaps share a quick tip on the equipment, lighting or sound that you find works best for you.

5. Keep it Quotable

Extract key points and witty or inspirational quotes from your interview and share them with your audience. Quotes make great Tweets and graphics.

Expert Tip: Formulate a couple main points and jot them down ahead of your interview. This will all but guarantee that you will remember to seamlessly weave them into the thread of your discussion. You can tap into those main points for quotes to use after recording!

6. The Sample Effect

There’s nothing quite like when that trailer for the next great movie or Netflix series comes out. Teasers are one of the most effective ways of quickly capturing your audience’s attention and intrigue!

You can easily make a sample video or audio only interview! Simply listen to it and capture one or two key points or great questions. By clipping it and sharing it with your followers they are much more likely to want to listen to the whole interview.

Expert Tip: Make sure people know where to go! Clearly identify where to tune into your interview. Most social media platforms allow for a direct link to be added to the caption, description, or your profile bio and this is generally the best way for your audience to easily access the show. You can either link the hosts website where they have posted your interview, link a podcast platform where the interview is available (such as iTunes), or best of all, if you have a dedicated page on your website where you list your featured interviews you can direct people there.

7. The Power of Video Content

The main format for podcast interviews is audio, but programs such as zoom allow you to easily capture your interview with the added bonus of video. This allows you to also share the interview on your YouTube, Facebook Live and Instagram TV channels. Why not create all this extra content in the same amount of time?

Expert Tip: Just as you test your microphone and audio before an interview, take a minute to record a test video to make sure that your lighting and appearance are top notch!

8. Blog Away

Making a transcription of your podcast may seem basic, but much the same as a little black dress in a classic wardrobe, a transcription is something you just cannot live without!

Why does it work? When your content is converted to text, it creates a huge draw for search engines.  When a topic related to your podcast is searched, it greatly increases your discoverability as the search engine has a treasure trove of content to grab. This skyrockets your SEO and sends the user to not only the written answer to their question but to your podcast episode itself.

You can save yourself time by using an automatic transcription generator or a transcription service, but if you ask nicely, the host themselves may be willing to provide you with the transcript they have of the interview.

Expert Tip: Thinking of starting a blog for your podcast? Don’t think you have the time? No problem! If you transcribe your interviews, you can easily tweak the format and edit it into a blog post. This is an incredibly efficient way to reach two major audiences - the listeners and the readers, all the while doing half the work!

9. Stagger Your Posting

Once you have converted your podcast, or a portion of it, into a format that is easy to share on a social  media platform, really dive into it! If you share the same content at different times, and different days across your social media, you increase the chances of it being viewed. It is all too easy for information to get lost in someone’s every growing feed of information. When it is shared at varied times, the early bird follower might see it at 7am on Facebook, the busy mom can spot your 12pm Instagram post while the kids are busy eating lunch, and the night owl can scroll through your 11pm Tweet. It is an incredibly simple strategy that has proven to reap great results.

Expert Tip: By varying your posting times, you do the same amount of work, and greatly grow the benefits.

10. Repost It

Each podcast episode that you record is rich with creative content material. Why not repost the same interview with different graphics and feature points periodically? Keep the posts about three months apart if the information is running in a similar vein to avoid sounding repetitive.

Expert Tip: Use different hashtags when reposting to draw in new followers and maximize engagement.

Why It’s Worth It

By converting your podcast into rich social media content, you unpack great SEO benefits, keep your followers engaged and simplify the job of creating content. It also ensures that you get the greatest return on investment (ROI) for the sacrifices you made to be a podcast guest.

We are confident that by following these ten simple tips (or at least a few of them) you will be driving even more traffic to your podcast interviews via your social media in no time!
